Arrived in Vietnam a.k.a. most expensive oversleep ever

March 1st, 2007

Yahooo, after a looong trip I finally arrived in Hoi an, 35km south of Da Nang.
But it was far away from a stressless trip. My planned trip should have been like this:

Dusseldorf -> London Heathrow
London Heathrow -> Hong Kong
Hong Kong -> Ho Chi Min City
Ho Chi Mih City -> Da Nang

Wow! Long day :)
Anyway, as said, it “should have been like this”. To catch my flight in Dusseldorf, I had to get up very early, at 2am. The last day I had a lot of work to do, so I did not made it to bed before 0am - so, just 2 hours of sleep.
I really don’t know what happened this night, because usually I’m very early riser, but this time I just didn’t hear the alarm. So I woke up at 6:30am, one hour before the plane leaves Dusseldorf - impossible to get there that fast.
Totally freaked out I called the airline, Cathay Pacific, and they said to me that I can calm down, because they’ve got a seat for me in a plane from Frankfurt to Hong Kong, which departures in 4h for a rebooking fee of 100,00 EUR. What a reflief!
Immediately after that call I’ve booked a train ticket to Frankfurt Airport, a 2h+ train ride for which I had to pay another 80 bucks.
I catched my flight in Frankfurt and also all my connecting flights, so everything was fine again, except for the 180,00 EUR, my most expensive oversleep ever ;)
