Agrigento and the Valley of Temples

November 17th, 2006

Agrigento Station

Agrigento is a city located on the Mediterranean Coast, and lucky for Ewa, its city center offers better shopping possibilities than Palermo. So we spent the first two hours with shopping (to be honest, I spent more money than Ewa ;-)).
Anyway, after that we decided to visit the Valley of Temples which is a ten minute bus ride out of town (0,85 EUR per ticket). But before entering the park we went to a restaurant nearly 2km away from the main ticket office, where we totally underestimated the distance, especially when the weather is as hot as it was today. So we finally arrived in the restaurant totally exhausted and swetting, as the first guests (I think they opened a minute before we arrived). There we’ve ordered a local homemade pasta called Cavatelli which was very good, but because of the unfriendly waiter the tip wasn’t as good as usual.
Anyway, after that we directly went into a well known tourist trap: a taxi. I knew that they’re charging more when you’re a tourist, but 20,00 EUR for the five minutes ride back to the ticket office was much more than I’ve expected.

Ewa at a Temple

A little bit pissed we went into the park (another 13,00 EUR for both of us) where we sadly discovered that two of the temples are currently being renovated or something like that. So they were hidden behind sheets. Great!
Shortly said our day was like this: 2h shopping, 1h restaurant + a 20,00 EUR taxi ride and 30 minutes Valley of the Temples. So, different schedute than usually planned, but it was a nice day anyway.
And now we’re sitting in our train back to Palermo where Giorgio is already waiting to take us out for his famous night adventure.
